…erupts volcanic fire, molten rock that rumbles from deep below the earth, shaking the earth and spitting plumes of death, while ever closer comes the chug-chug-chugging of Iceland’s latest star act…

…and it’s their debut album.

Iceland isn’t as prolific as her Scandinavian kin when it comes to bands making it to an international audience, but when a band does make it out they’re usually very good. You can say what you want about Björk but she had moments of brilliance and still preferable to anyone else “extravagant” coming from the land of the GaGa. Of course when it comes to Metal the ruling king in Iceland probably is Sòlstafir, who is one of my very favourite bands, ever.

A few years ago I wrote a review Beneath‘s “2009 Promo” of Brutal Death Metal, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was full of old school Death, some very nice hooks and guitar play and of course, monstrous chugga-chugga riffing.

Here’s the first single off their upcoming debut, Enslaved by Fear, and it’s called No One Above:
